Our History
The infant stages of Center City Church began in 1979 in the town of Loyal, with a small group of people meeting in homes. Thirty-six people attended the first church service which was held in June of 1980 in the basement of a Marshfield coffee house called "The Ark." Within a few weeks we leased our first building at 1901 W Arnold and stayed there until the fall of 1981, when we had filled the auditorium to capacity.
At that time the former Swanson Furniture building became available, and we moved to our downtown location on Central Avenue, affectionately known as "Swanson's Synagogue." We continued to grow, launched several outreach projects and expanded our television ministry.
In the spring of 1984, God began to impress upon us that it was time to build. We had already miraculously acquired the 74 acres on which to build the facility and felt the leading of the Lord to pursue financing for the project. The church numbered close to 400 then, and we all looked with expectancy to where God was leading us. With a great deal of sacrifice and "sweat," we moved into our facility in December of 1984.
Our second building, the Orbital Youth Center, was built in 1998 to facilitate a vibrant youth ministry and many community outreaches. This multi-purpose building meets the needs of many of the church’s ministries.
Since that time, Center City Church has been blessed with a consistent group of people that affectionately call Center City Church "family."
